V4W 2E: AU/NZ Fulfillment
This is the second of five posts about fulfillment costs for the Kickstarter campaign of the second printing of Votes for Women. The previous post covered fulfillment to “Rest of World” backers. This post covers fulfillment costs to Australia and New Zealand backers.
To recap, we charge a flat $15 rate for a single copy of Votes for Women for shipping and any fees or taxes for all non-US backers. There is also a built-in subsidy of up to $15 in the cost of a single game. For a case of six games, we charge a flat $50 and there is a built-in subsidy of $30. So our shipping budget means we need to be below $30 total shipping costs for an individual game and we need to be below $80 total shipping costs for a case of six games.
Our partner for fulfillment to Australia and New Zealand is Aetherworks. Aetherworks also distributes our games to stores, so we sent a total of 240 games (40 cases) to Aetherworks for a combination of backer fulfillment and distribution needs. With VFI Asia, the cost of getting the games to the fulfillment center was negligible - $60. To get the games to Aetherworks, we shipped them on the Wide Hotel (pictured above) from Shenzhen to Sydney and then by land to the Aetherworks warehouse. This cost us $1206.77 - or about $5.03 per game. The costs are broken out below in AUD.
The pallet and administrative fees add another $0.26 per game, so now the total cost of getting the games to Aetherworks ready to ship is $5.29 per game.
The cost of shipping both an individual game and a case of games to both Australia and New Zealand is broken out below. The total shows the cost when including the $5.29 per game cost in addition to the shipping costs. As you can see, between what we charge for shipping plus the built-in subsidy, we are within our budget in all cases except for shipping a case of games to New Zealand.
Next up, Canada!
